Private Preparation, Public Power: The Cost and Calling of the Anointing
Before the Oil Flows, the Furnace Burns
Before David stood before giants, he stood before God. Before he held the sword of Goliath, he held a harp in obscurity. And long before Samuel’s horn poured oil on his head, the Lord had already poured something far more valuable into his heart: character, obedience, and trust.
In 1 Samuel 16, David is anointed in the presence of his brothers — but that public ceremony was simply the unveiling of a private process. God had been equipping David in secret, in the lonely fields of Bethlehem, shepherding sheep and singing psalms, fighting lions and bears, before calling him to the battlefield. The anointing revealed the calling, but it was the preparation that sustained it.
"The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine." – 1 Samuel 17:37
Anointing Attracts Attention — and Opposition
We must remember: the anointing attracts attacks.
Why? Because the enemy sees what God sees. When David was anointed, the enemy didn't suddenly appear — he had already been watching. The battles that follow your blessing are not random. They're confirmation. Hell responds to Heaven’s endorsement. When God marks you with purpose, the enemy marks you as a threat.
That’s why the devil is most aggressive after a moment of breakthrough. Think of Jesus: baptized and affirmed by the Father — “This is My beloved Son” — and immediately driven into the wilderness to be tested (Matthew 3–4). The greater the anointing, the greater the attack. Not to destroy you, but to remind you: you can’t do this without God.
Anointing Is Empowerment, Not Immunity
It’s tempting to think that once you’re anointed, things should get easier. That somehow divine empowerment equals immunity from struggle. But the truth is, anointing doesn’t remove opposition — it reveals your authority over it. The oil didn’t keep David from Goliath; it empowered him to defeat him.
"You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows." – Psalm 23:5
Notice: the anointing happens in the presence of enemies. The table of fellowship and overflow is set not in the absence of war, but in the middle of it. God doesn’t remove the enemy to bless you — He blesses you in spite of the enemy.
Your Attacks Are Ammunition’s Echo
Here’s a critical truth: the type of attack you face is a clue to the assignment on your life.
If the enemy launches accusation, it’s often because you’re called to speak truth. If he stirs fear, it’s because you’re destined to walk in boldness. If your peace is constantly under fire, it’s because you’re meant to carry peace into chaotic places.
Satan doesn’t waste ammunition on people who pose no threat. If you’re under pressure, under spiritual attack, and surrounded by doubt — don’t panic. Take inventory of what hell is trying to silence. That’s often what heaven wants to amplify.
Anointing Oil: A Symbol of Sacred Consecration
At The Anointing Oil Shop, we view anointing oil not as a magical potion, but as a biblical tool — a sacred point of contact between our obedience and God’s power. When you anoint yourself or someone else with oil, you’re declaring in faith:
-
"This one is set apart."
-
"This one belongs to God."
-
"This one walks in divine authority and purpose."
Just as David was anointed with oil as a sign of his selection and empowerment, we use oil today as a symbol of God’s continued call on our lives.
"Is anyone among you sick? Let them call the elders of the church to pray over them and anoint them with oil in the name of the Lord." – James 5:14
Blessed and Battle-Tested
To be anointed is not to be immune — but to be empowered. It’s to walk with divine favor and divine fire. It’s to face battles, knowing they’re allowed by God not to break you, but to build you, train you, and prove the power of the Spirit within you.
So if you’re feeling the heat, don’t despair. You’re not being destroyed — you’re being defined.
You’re not cursed — you’re called.
You’re not forgotten — you’re being forged.
God is preparing you in private, because public purpose requires private fire.
Don’t resent the pressure. It’s proof that you’re carrying something valuable. And when the time is right, the oil will flow — and so will the power, the influence, and the victory.
